The Greatness of Magnificence presents Looking for Ennio Morricone

On Friday 27th November at 8pm, the Cube see the return of the ever-popular “The Greatness of the Magnificence”. Jesse has assembled a crack squad of musicians, including a small choir, to perform a selection of Ennio Morricone pieces. Morricone is best known for his compositions for Spaghetti Westerns, and collaborated extensively with the film director Sergio Leone.

A couple of Audio samples recorded at a rehearsal by Richard Arnott:

Bluescreen Presents…… this wednesday

BLUESCREEN PRESENTS…. SECOND LIGHT BRISTOL

Wed 28th/8.00pm /GBP 3/2

Bluescreen presents the first in an occasional series, focussing on filmmaking communities in Bristol. Tonight we welcome Second Light Bristol to the Cube. Second Light Bristol is one of three pilot schemes in the UK with the aim of training Black and Minority Ethnic young people for employment in the film and television industry, with the aim to address under-representation of such groups in the UK industry.

Tonight we showcase the D.I.Y. work of these aspiring filmmakers.

For the culturally-minded, you may muse on emergent aesthetics and seek out some semblance of a Black British voice emerging from these Bristol filmmakers. Or you could just come down and watch and support these young and talented filmmakers.

Plus The Cube Orchestra. And Bluescreen Hi-fi DJs in the bar all night

We don’t mean to Bragg…

So one for the older members of the greater Cube community to enjoy. Ex Squaddie, writer, political activist and even Musician Billy Bragg came to The Cube as part of a project dsigned to get guitars into prison to help in the rehabilitation of prisoners: Breaking Rocks

Billy Bragg

I suggest you check out the very good website.

Anyhow it was great to see lots of old faces, the usual Billy Bragg tour t-shirts from latter years and to hear a couple of ex members of HMP sing some of the songs they’d written with the guitars they’d been given. Billy did a Q&A with film director Alan Milesthat was really interesting and then he played a couple of songs.

This was a really lovely night spent with one of the good guys amongst the usual lovely Cube audience and volunteers.
